I’ll tell you what, if it wasn’t for the internet, and the endless list of suggestions on how to entertain your toddler, I’d be lost.
I decided just recently, like yesterday, that I am now going to plan at least one new activity each and every day. Sounds simple enough, right? Well, not for me. Planning is one thing, actually doing it is something else entirely.
For example, just yesterday I was scouring the internet trying to find something fun for Z and I to do. I was hoping for an indoor project, something that would allow her to be creative, and allow me, of course, to sit back and enjoy my 8th cup of coffee.
I found this really cute idea that involved food coloring, popcorn, and marshmallows. I thought, perfect! She can paint, and I can eat. What more could you ask for? I was so excited I even posted it on my Facebook status.
After lunch I began gathering materials.
Marshmallows…marshmallows…”Now where the hell did I put those marshmallows!”
I found them alright! Rock solid they were! Then I thought, well that’ll make them easier to paint! But what if she tries to eat one, that could be bad. Hell with the marshmallows, let’s just paint popcorn!
So I pop the bag of popcorn into the microwave, use the little pre-programmed popcorn cooker button, and we’re on our way!
Next I prepare the bowls for the food coloring. The article suggested I use milk. As I’m trying to decide whether or not I should use cow milk or soy milk, I notice a burnt smell in the air.
Then I think, well maybe we could still paint it. But guess what, milk mixed with food coloring, regardless of whether it’s soy or cow, doesn’t show up on black popcorn.
Figures. Well, the hell with it! I didn’t want to paint the stupid popcorn anyways..sniff, sniff.
Day 1 was a bust. We’ll see how day 2 goes!
